high quality sound card ???
I run a dual boot and have had no problems with Vista sound. I use the Realtek audio for all FSX sounds and a Creative 7.1 sound card for all voice. Used the native XP/Vista drivers not those supplied by Creative. Works like a champ. As far as Vista/FSX goes, IMHO - Vista looks better but XP flies better.

I've owned a few motherboards now with onboard sound, the A97 chipset seems very popular and i did try them, sounds OK 5.1 but not good enough for me so far. There is no doubt you will save a few CPU cycles going with a dedicated plug in PCI soundcard, I don't have the reasons or benchmarks to hand to prove this,

You motherboard (if it's relativly new) comes with a 5.1 or even 7.1 soundcard. Sometimes that's all you need. If you mean SERIOUS sourround sound, This means that you may well have a 5.1 sound card but not have sourroung sound in gaming. That is because Dolby and DTS need to be decoded and that is up to the

System rebooted fine, but no sound. Tried restore - no help. Looked in device mgr and yellow question mark next to my sound card (creative labs X-fi). My onboard sound is disconnected to accomodate card. Tried reinstalling the sound card drivers - still no sound and question mark still there in device mgr.

Anyway, thanx for the answer- since I have an ebay bid on an audigy2 and so far am close to winning the auction for it, I may have no choice but to pay for it if I can't get released from it. I did a lot of research before bidding but not enough. I think I would have been better off bidding on the audigy4 or xfi

I installed the 64 bit version which ran fine except I could not get my sound card to run, Creative 6800-XFI. Yes, I downloaded 64 bit drivers from both Dell and Creative. My
current soundcard, the one in my old machine, is Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Elite Pro. That's where you start. the £100 was for the x-fi sound card "was looking at the x-fire range, good and about £100 odd something like Auzen X-Fi Prelude" thats the sound card, NOT the speakers, No surround sound outputs, but it's good for 4 simultaneous channels of recording. It cost me £379 a year or two ago.

The way I see things now, taking into account that the Tv tuner USB stick has no sound line out or anything of the kind, I think it really these are products thought to be used with laptops or anything which sound card was integrated in the motherboard, and that neither Creative nor Asus imagined there would be a

With better speakers and sound system, by doing an AB test, or even something a simple as having someone point out what the difference is, you could potentially be able to hear a difference between the two sound cards. That conclusion is as objective as it is subjective. No, your conclusion is purely subjective.

Audio problem
My budget for the new sound card is $750, while I can get anther X-Fi Elite Pro, I do not see the point. What I am looking for is a sound card that is at least as good as X-Fi Elite Pro, can do input and output at 48-bits / 384 KHz. Good luck finding a card with that extreme level of overkill. No card can yet

Device Manager/Event Viewer is clean as a whistle I then had a Sound Blaster XFi- Fatality laying around so I plugged that in and installed its drivers and disabled the Onboard sound card and same problem. So this leads me to believe there to be a problem with the sound system (I guess) in Vista.
