That's where you start. the £100 was for the x-fi sound card "was looking at the x-fire range, good and about £100 odd something like Auzen X-Fi Prelude" thats the sound card, No no, I don't want to go mad and get in to fiber, something that will be good, but still not going to rape my bank account.

The EMG DG-20 puts out a fairly hot output with no tone boosts, and VERY hot with the SPC mids up. Turn your guitar volume DOWN. You're clipping your sound card! Since it is low impedance, you don't get the typical tone suck that you do with a passive guitar. Try it again with guitar volume at 7 or below if your

very puzzling!!
However, after buying several new video cards for my system over the past 5 years, I decided that it was time I replaced the original sound card too. that came on the CD with the board, downloaded and installed the latest set of Audigy 4 drivers from Creative's web site, reinstalled Oblivion, and ... no dice!

Sound card to play music, not games
Having
done some research I have heard that Audigy and XFi make some decent soundcards but the better ones cost $$$. A secondhand Audigy Pro from last year is now relatively cheap though but no idea if that is now considered good enough (??). In a nutshell I need some basic advice on a good soundcard to buy as I

Audio problem
One day I turned on PC and had no sound, Got messge that no sound device was found on system. USB still plugged in OK (tried reconnecting it). Seems like something in the power supply section has zapped, making sound card draw too much current. My second PC is down right now, so I coudn't check on another PC.

Which Sound Card can you recommend?
Audigy was a step up from the live card but it wasn't until the Audigy 2 that they seemed to get enough of an improvement that I was recommending it. The X-FI is a fine sound card and it is an improvement over the audigy line but I'm ready for the real thing. Just my opinion of course but dang it, buying an XFI

I can choose the Yamaha keyboard as an output device, and it plays back through it no problem. But no way can I get it to play through the sound card or the MS MIDI mapper. In fact the sound card's MIDI mapper (Creative SoundFont) doesn't even show up as a choice, and the MS MIDI mapper isn't accepted by Sonar.
